How to improve your photos

by Iridian Lobato

Nowadays everybody has the ability to take a picture without expensive equipment or complicate tools. But how could you make your photos out from others? Here I will share you 3 important tips that you could consider when taking photos on your next vacation or for your next selfies.

The rule of thirds its one of the most important rules of composition in photography and other visual arts like design, cinematography, paint etc. It consists of dividing your scenario into 3 equal parts resulting in 4 focus points and 9 open spaces within our image.

Why is it important?

To highlight your main point of focus it is advisable to place your object/protagonist in on of the four power points (vertex) of the central frame.

With this rule your pictures will have a better appearance and visual balance. It also give you the control to the visual   attention of the spectators and highlight the points of greatest emphasis in your photos.

This is a rule that you can activate on your mobile phone, tablet and camera (regardless of the model or brand).

Light is what gives life to photography. Scientifically, without light it is impossible to get an image. Light also brings emotions to your photos; poorly planned lighting could completely change the message or moment you want to share. But, how difficult can be to have the control of light? Actually it’s not, you don’t need a photo studio of giant lamps to create a perfect picture, you can’t carry a ring light with you all the time on your beach vacations, right?

Here you can see an example of control with natural light. First picture: Frontal light. Second picture: Backlight. Third light: Sidelight.

The only thing you have to do is observe and move, there is no better light than natural light (sun) for a pictures. But the important thing is find the correct angle and position of the sunlight to obtain the result you want.

Playing with the elements around you makes your photos more creative and fun. You don’t need much to create a very original photo, from a maple leaf on the ground, to the neon signs you find on a night walk through the city. This will became a more special and entertaining way to capture your memories.

It is always good to look for ideas on the internet for a little inspiration, but remember to always maintain your style!

Also you won’t need all the time your personal photographer, the objets around you not only help you by appearing in your pictures, you can also use them  to accommodate your camera  or phone (remember to use the timer).

It is not necessary just the objets, practice with trail and error, you will find your preferred angle!

SMILE! We are all fabulous being in front of a camera :D!
